Anthony’s Peace Walk for Safety

It has been over three weeks since the tragedy in Parkland, Florida took place, and our hearts continue to grieve for the families who lost loved ones on that day.  Students across the nation are planning to do a walk out for 17 minutes on Wednesday, March 14 at 10:00 am. Anthony students feel compelled to participate in the upcoming walkout. Anthony staff and administration recognize the importance of the event and the impact on our students’ social and emotional learning.

Students will have the option to walk out of the building and participate in a peaceful, student-led demonstration on school grounds for 17 minutes. Students will form a circle around the school supervised by staff.  We welcome parents and the community. At the conclusion of the observance, students and staff will return to the building and continue the school day. If your child is interested in participating, please talk to them about the serious nature of the walkout.

Students who wish to participate in broader community events that involve leaving the Anthony campus must have parent permission. Written notes with parent signature must be turned into the main office by morning of March 14th. Students who leave campus will not be allowed to return that day nor may they participate in afterschool activities. They will be marked unexcused for remaining hours.

During these times, it is especially important to remind our loved ones how much they mean to us. If you suspect your child may be going through a difficult time, please reach out to Justina Bisch, school counselor or Leah Pillsbury, school social worker for more resources and support.
