"Crackback" by John Coy (click for my response)

Actually, the steroid thing is fairly minor in the book. Most of it is about his relationship with his super-demanding father, his changing friendships (where the steroids come in) and a new football coach who thinks winning is the only thing and has a problem with Miles (the main character). I actually liked this book a lot. I may even buy this one! The football part is explained well enough so that even if you aren't a football player, you will get it. If you are, I think the descriptions of practices and team relationships will feel real to you.
