Dragonsong, Dragonsinger and Dragondrums by Anne McCaffrey

These books are part of a large dragon series starting with Dragonflight. The other books are aimed more at adults, although there is little to nothing in them that is more than suggestive. The planet of Pern has been stuck in a "dark age," without much development, but over the course of the books we see Pern's Renaissance and the rediscovery of lost skills and technology. Some of the books examine Pern's history and the origin of the dragons as well as some of its legends. I really enjoyed this series. I will say that I prefer the earlier books that McCaffrey wrote alone, more than the latest ones where she co-wrote with her son. Anyone who is into the sci-fi / fantasy genre should acquaint themselves with the dragon books. They are classics in the field.
