Lockwood & Co.: The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud

This was a great book from beginning to end! The world of Lockwood & Co. was very interesting and detailed. All the details fit together nicely including the history, the methods of ghost fighting and the details of paranormal activity. Lucy is the narrator and is a great, complex, but sympathetic character. Anthony Lockwood is charismatic, dashing and has a mysterious past. The third member of the group, George, manages to apply a little comic relief without just being a clown. The hauntings were dramatic and creepy without being excessively graphic. I also loved the way that all the separate pieces connected at the end.

There is a second book out already, which I plan on reading ASAP! I get the feeling this is planned to be part of a trilogy, so I will be keeping my eyes peeled for another sequel.

(This book was written by the author of the Bartimaeus Trilogy, if you read that. I liked this better. The characters were more likeable.)
