Luna by Julie Anne Peters

I don't know if "loved" is the right word for this book, but I know that I think about things differently after reading it. It is definitely something that changes the way you view the world. Liam/Luna is a compelling character. I knew something about gender identity issues before I read the book, but this story does a good job of showing how complex it can be. Liam has known since a very young age that he feels like a girl and that is one of the complicating factors. If you think that this is a choice, this book might give you a different perspective. It also does a good job of showing how it affects other people- friends and family also have to deal with issues around gender identity. And finally, it doesn't pull any punches about some of the negative reactions our society still has. I would recommend this book if you are looking to be a little more open-minded about this issue.
