Ranger's Apprentice (Book 1: The Ruins of Gorlan) by John Flanagan

I have had so many students love this book that I was excited to read it. I totally get why they liked it. It is quick paced, and well developed. The characters are interesting and the relationships feel realistic. While Will is definitely the protagonist, there were scenes about other characters which added to the interest. I particularly liked the way Horace developed as a character.

This is a part of a series of books. I know there are 10 Ranger's Apprentice books as well as some other books set in that same world which touch on the characters and events. I definitely plan on reading several more!
