The Evil Wizard Smallbone by Delia Sherman

If you have read Howl's Moving Castle, this book is nothing at all like it. But, it has some of the same feel. The wizard who isn't everything he seems. The ordinary people who have a deep and mysterious connection with the wizard. The gentle way we find out about the layers of connections and the histories of the people involved.

I really liked this book! It was fun and charming. Nick was a neat character and I really enjoyed how he develops throughout the book. The supporting characters were also interesting and multi-dimensional in their own rights.

It isn't a book that can have a sequel, but I would love to read some other books by the same author.
